FERPA & COPPA Compliance
AssignClear is built from the ground up to respect student privacy and fully comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We recognize that student records are highly sensitive and treat them with maximum operational security. We sign Student Data Privacy Agreements (SDPAs) upon request with local educational agencies (LEAs).
What We Collect
We collect teacher account credentials (email, billing plan) and text-based logs entered directly by the teacher (such as student names, assignment titles, and submission statuses) to render lists.
What We Specifically Do NOT Collect
We do NOT collect student email addresses, student phone numbers, student home addresses, or parental financial data. Students access their read-only recovery lists via unique, anonymized token hashes, meaning they never register for accounts or disclose personal credentials on our site.
Data Security & Encryption Standard
All data in transit is encrypted using secure TLS 1.3 protocols, and database storage is encrypted at rest using AES-256 standards. Our database is hosted on secure Postgres servers (Neon) with restricted access control protocols.
We will NEVER sell, lease, rent, or monetize student or teacher logs for advertising. We have zero advertising trackers on our platform. The data is used strictly to provide the recovery checklist service.
Frequently Asked Privacy Questions
Who owns the class logs and student portfolios entered on the site?
The teacher and their respective school district own all data. AssignClear acts as a data processor. You can request a complete data export or delete your account along with all student data logs permanently at any time.
Can school administrators review our compliance parameters?
Yes. We provide complete compliance documentation, including SOC-2 summaries of our cloud infrastructure and signed SDPAs, to district IT managers during site license procurement.
